Posted by Jason We hired a private car ($15 one way) to take us from Hoi An to Da Nang, from there we took the 10-hour train ride to Nha Trang. Fortunately they were serving food on the train, because the cookies we bought at the train station did not satisfy our hunger at all. This was our only non-sleeper train ride in Vietnam and it was a long one! The level of hygiene is different from what we're used to and we couldn't really get used to the funky smell on the train and the garbage littered all over the floor. Nha Trang is one of many popular beach towns along the coast of Vietnam. We chose Nha Trang because from what we've read, compared to other resort destinations it has more to offer than just the beach scene. It actually has a fairly authentically Vietnamese city centre. However, our 3 days in Nha Trang were pretty relaxing and we didn't veer too far away from the beach. Aside from sun bathing (beach chair rental costs $2 each, per use) and drinking on the beach ($0.75 for a 500ml Saigon Beer), we also went for a massage at Sen Spa. The service and massages at Sen Spa were fantastic and the prices were very reasonable. I paid $12 for a 90-minute full body massage and Karbo paid $9 for a 60-minute foot massage. The Vietnamese couple who own the spa chatted with us after our treatment and even gave us dining suggestion in Nha Trang. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend Sen Spa! In terms of food, Nha Trang didn't blow our minds like the other Vietnamese cities. They're known for their seafood (you can find vendors toting fresh seafood on the beach and they'll bbq the food right in front of you) but we didn't try too much since we were on a budget and already have such great seafood in Vancouver. We had a couple of decent meals and I'll let the pictures do the talking. Our friends Angus and Sheila had recently visited Nha Trang and told us it's a popular destination for Russians. Well, let's just say if it wasn't for their heads-up we would've been much more surprised by the number of store signs and menus in Russian. The Russian influence was mostly contained to just the touristy area near the ocean, and has been around since the two countries' alliance during war time. We're glad we visited Nha Trang and got to bask in the sun a little. However, our laziness and budget got in the way of us seeing more of the city. We didn't visit Vinpearl Island and its amusement park but we hear it's a fun cable car ride over. We also didn't explore much of the city centre, mostly because it was hot. Regardless, we had a good time!
