Posted by Jason. After a loooooong evening of traveling on March 13th, we finally made it to our hotel in Tokyo at 1am. We used the Marriott points accumulated from our RTW trip and stayed at Price Sakura Tower, Autograph Collection. The hotel is close to the Shinagawa subway station. The room was beautiful with tons of space (especially compared to the tiny room we had in Sapporo) and it had a pretty decent view.

Posted by Jason. Karbo and I have been back in Vancouver for almost two years now since our 9 month round-the-world stint. Here's a quick summary of what we've been up to since our return in May 2014:
Posted by Jason We left Perth on the night of May 8th. During our 2 hour lay-over in Melbourne we saw a very dramatic sunrise over the airstrip and it was beautiful!
Posted by Jason On May 3rd we took a bus from Penang to Kuala Lumpur, then a red-eye flight to Perth in Western Australia. We weren't able to check in to our Airbnb apartment on the morning of May 4th because it was still occupied by the previous guest, but our hosts Fanny and Stephane were kind enough to let us drop off our backpacks and freshen up. Once we looked half decent, but still half asleep, we took a bus to the Central Business District (or CBD, at least that's what the cool kids call it down there).
Before arriving, we were prepared to raise our budget for Australia, but it was still difficult to get used to how expensive everything was. Our 30 minute taxi ride from the airport to the apartment was $55 AUD (Australian dollar is more or less on par with Canadian dollar)! A simple breakfast for two was $30. Now that may not seem absurd for most Vancouverites since Vancouver is also notorious for its high living expense, but having just spent the previous 4 months in Asia, this was a bit of a shock for us. Posted by Jason Our second and final stop in Malaysia (sadly, also our final stop in Asia) is the island of Penang. We spent all 3 days in the state capital Georgetown, which in 2008 was named an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Georgetown, especially the old town, has a charming colonial feel with its Chinese shop-houses, narrow roads, clan houses, and colonial-era mansions. We booked an Airbnb private room (our first time using Airbnb in Asia!) at a huge apartment on the 37th floor along Gurney Drive, a popular waterfront road. Our hosts were a friendly Dutch couple and we enjoyed hanging out with them and their two cats, Spruti and Kiko. The panoramic view of the ocean from the apartment was pretty amazing!
