While in Kuala Lumpur, we stayed with Karbo's friend Natalia and her family. Nat grew up in Malaysia and went to university in Vancouver, and has now returned home and established herself as a multi-talented celebrity in Malaysia. Yes, we stayed with a celebrity in KL!!! Huge thank-you to Nat and Nat's family for their hospitality. Because of them, we got to experience Kuala Lumpur the local way!
Posted by Jason On April 27th we said good bye to our friends Mel and Elliott in Singapore and took the First Coach bus to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For $30 per person, the bus ride was comfortable, relatively clean, and included a movie. Crossing the Singapore-Malaysia border was an interesting experience. We had to get off the bus twice: Once at the Singapore custom, and again at the Malaysian custom, where we were required to bring our bags off the bus, then carry them back on after crossing the border. The custom officers were very friendly and gave us a great first impression of Malaysia :)

Posted by Jason I would be lying if I said I knew much about Singapore before we got there. My knowledge of the city-state was limited to its gum (not gun, which I'm sure applies as well) laws, Singlish (Singaporean style English), and its delicious cuisine (chilli crab, laksa...etc). Not quite knowing what to expect, Singapore was a pleasant surprise with its multi-culturalism, colourful architecture, and a wide array of yummy food!
Posted by Jason Jakarta wouldn't have made it onto our itinerary if we didn't have friends living there. From all the travel guides we'd read it seemed like there wasn't too much to Jakarta except for lots of traffic. We like to think we're open to any new experience, though, so we decided to go for it!

Posted by Jason For those that don't know, I was born in Taiwan and lived there until moving to Vancouver at the age of 10. I've been back to visit many times before but this is the first time bringing Karbo with me, and I was excited to introduce her to family and my childhood friends!
